About

Real and mythical animals, including lions, boars, sphinxes, and panthers, parade through the three decorative zones. These animals, popular decoration on Corinthian vases, originate in Near Eastern art. Note the alternation between predatory and grazing animals. Most of the animals are in profile, but the frontal faces of the panthers make eye contact with the viewer.
