Black-Figure Oinochoe (Wine Pitcher) The Greek hero Herakles fights the Nemean Lion to tackle the first of his twelve labors. The skin of this lion will become his most prominent attribute. The weapons left hanging in the tree remind the viewer that he killed the beast with his bare hands. Iolaos, Herakles’ nephew, extends a club over the hero as a gesture of assistance.
